Cloud Computing Concepts
Cloud concepts and connectivity options
What you will learn
- Distinguish IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS by what the customer manages versus the provider.
- Explain the difference between public, private, and hybrid cloud.
- Recall common cloud connectivity options (VPN, dedicated connection).
- Pick the right model for a given scenario instead of just memorizing definitions.
All three cloud service models sell essentially the same thing — compute resources you don't physically own — but they differ in where the provider's job ends and yours begins. Picture a ladder: IaaS gives you just the virtual hardware, PaaS gives you a ready runtime, SaaS gives you the finished application.
Who manages what
| IaaS | SaaS | |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Fully managed by the customer | The customer never sees it |
| Application | Customer installs and manages it | Ready-made, fully managed by the provider |
| Example | A virtual machine on AWS/Azure | A ready-made cloud email service |
Cloud deployment models
| Public Cloud | Resources shared among multiple customers on an external provider's infrastructure. |
|---|---|
| Private Cloud | Cloud infrastructure dedicated to a single organization, in-house or hosted. |
| Hybrid Cloud | A combination of private and public infrastructure, with workloads moving between them as needed. |
What matters on the exam
- PaaS is the most confused one — a ready development environment (no OS to manage, but no finished app either).
- "We want full server control without buying hardware" = always IaaS.
Quick check
Answer in your head first, then reveal.

IaaS.
Which deployment model combines private and public?Reveal the answer
