Talent Acquisition

Talent Acquisition

What you will learn

  • Explain the employee value proposition and realistic job previews.
  • Distinguish behavioral from situational questions and structured from unstructured interviews.
  • Apply the four-fifths rule to selection rates.
  • Distinguish orientation from onboarding.

Good recruiting isn't measured by applicant volume but by the quality and tenure of those hired. It starts with a clear value proposition that attracts the right people, passes through valid and fair selection tools, and ends with onboarding that truly integrates the new hire.

Behavioral vs. situational question

The four-fifths rule

60% of the highest-passing group passed a hiring test versus 30% of a protected group. Ratio = 30 ÷ 60 = 50%, below 80%, so this is preliminary evidence of adverse impact requiring a review of the test's job-relatedness.

Recruiting terms

EVPEmployee value proposition: why do people work here? The foundation of the employer brand.
Realistic Job PreviewShowing both the positive and difficult sides of the job to reduce early resignations.
Work Sample TestPerforming real job tasks; among the most predictive tools.

What matters on the exam

  • Structured interviews have higher reliability and validity because they standardize questions and rating criteria.
  • Apply the same process to every candidate, even someone the manager knows personally.
  • Onboarding is a months-long process; orientation is a short event within it.
