Technology Management

Technology Management

What you will learn

  • Follow the steps for selecting an HR system, starting with requirements.
  • Plan adoption of a new system with a pilot and training.
  • Apply role-based access and data retention policies.
  • Set controls for using AI in hiring.

HR technology doesn't succeed on software quality alone, but on user adoption and trust that their data is safe. The exam focuses on management decisions about technology, not technical details.

Selecting and implementing a system

  1. Define requirements with users

  2. Evaluate vendors

  3. Limited pilot

  4. Training and support

  5. Rollout and measurement

Data protection principles

Role-Based AccessAccess by role and actual need only (least privilege).
Purpose LimitationNot using data for a purpose other than the one it was collected for without consent.
Data RetentionKeeping records for the legal period and then destroying them, neither forever nor too early.

AI isn't inherently objective

A resume-screening tool trained on past hiring data can learn its biases and repeat them at scale. Before relying on it: audit for bias against protected groups, be transparent, and keep human oversight of decisions.

What matters on the exam

  • The first step in choosing a system is defining business requirements, not price or what a competitor uses.
  • Self-service frees HR for higher-value work while access controls remain.
  • Transferring employee data out of Europe is subject to GDPR restrictions even within the same company.
